Many people in the last decade and a half have felt their lives lacking something of a "spiritual" nature. We went to "church" on a routine basis but that did not seem to fill the void. I was one of those people. My religious background had prepared me quite well for defending some doctrinal propositions and equipped me for fairly good "bible study."
